We made good progress last week on fungicide spraying and managed to finish on Friday. We had a few windy days mid week but still managed to get it completed. Fungicide timing is tight – there’s usually an optimal 2 day window for timing – trying to balance with crop stage and watching to see what weather will be in next couple days. Spraying a day or two earlier will be 70-80% effectiveness while spraying a day or two later can be 40-50% effectiveness. Crop staging varies through the field and that can make it difficult to find that “optimum” stage.
With fungicide spraying done we can now concentrate on bringing the balance of the 2021 fertilizer in and keep going on our grain hauling program.
Crop looks decent to date. We had some minor hail on some south land and a few fields in the middle. That’s also where the majority of the rain has been falling as well. Up north the crop still looks decent but it’s been a while since we have had a good soaking rain….hope we will see one soon to keep the crop potential in place. The hail that did go through was in a small strip, about 2 km wide and 4 km long, and it did a fair bit of damage but confined to small area.
