Good Progress, Now Weather Delay

Its been a good run to date, have not had much for weather delays these last few weeks. We had a brief shower last week which kept us out of the field for 2 days, but prior to that we have had a good string of harvest days! Today we are down due to the weather, small showers moving through.

We have been making good progress – we have all the cereals except for 700 acres of regular oats yet to harvest, the balance is canola. There is lots of straw this year, even the fields we used a growth regulator – which is taking longer to put through the combine. Yields have also been decent – average to above average in some fields. We are having to dry most of our cereals so far and this is causing a backlog at the grain dryer. We also have a fair amount of grain contracted to move in the month of September – over 10,000mt – and that has been slow to move. Once we get some of this backlog moved out we will create more room.

This next week looks to be cool, so it will likely be a few days before we can get back at harvest. The equipment is all serviced and ready to go, so it will be a good opportunity for everyone to catch up on sleep….
