For the week of July 21st to 27th
It was a good week of weather this past week. We ended up getting some more showers on our south land, brining the total moisture from Saturday to Monday to 24mm. The temperatures were cool – Monday and Tuesday had daytime highs in the mid teens. The lower temperatures are good for the crop as they are flowering and filling – especially canola. This next week looks to be dry, and starting to warm up – temperatures in the mid to high 20’s.
As this is the last full week of July, we start to look at estimated harvest dates. The month of July ended up being much cooler than what had been forecasted. At the end of June we thought we would be looking at an early harvest. Now it looks like some of our barley could be ready by the 3rd week of August, but our wheat and canola will be pushed into September. Some of the canola that had uneven maturity could get pushed to mid September.
We finished hauling all the canola, oats and wheat. Still have some Synergy Malt Barley that is moving out yet – that will be stretched out to middle of August.
Most of our guys have been taking advantage of the slower schedule last week and the week up coming – and taking some time away from the farm. Always good to get away, get some R&R, so we can be ready to hit the field feeling refreshed when harvest starts!
