For the week of May 19-25th
Now that seeding is complete – scouting season kicks in to high gear! As dry as it’s been – plants are getting off to a good start. Some seed stranded in dry ground but we planted deeper than normal so got majority into moisture and it’s coming along.
Starting to see some flea beetle pressure on volunteers and the odd mark on seedlings – end of next week will be critical to keep watching for them.
This week we cleaned up the drills, made some lists on any major and minor repairs, ordered the parts, and put the spare tool kits away. We like to do most of the work on the air drills right after seeding, while everything is fresh in our mind, and lightens the workload for next spring
We will be waiting on our in crop herbicide application until we get some rain to stimulate weed growth. Most of the weed seeds are stuck in the top layer of soil, which is too dry at the moment to germinate.
This next week looks to be dry, and hot. Hoping after this week we can start to see some rain in the forecast!
