Dry Trend?

For the week of May 26th – June 1st

This has been an odd weather season so far. We are only at the start of June, but there have been some persistent trends that have been with us. The first is the wind – we have had wind almost every day since the snow melt. Very few calm days. The second, has been warm to hot temperatures. There have already been quite a few days that have been at or above 30C – which is not normal. The third trend has been the dry weather. We have had virtually no moisture since the snow melted. Is this trend going to continue through the summer? That is the big question. There are other areas experiencing trends that are impacting our area – the severe, wet weather in the lower USA (Tennessee, Georgia) as well as through the Montana and the Dakota’s – is not allowing the moisture to progress far enough north into our area. We have a ridge in place that is stubbornly staying in place….longer range forecasts do offer some hope by mid June…

Crop establishment still is looking decent, and I don’t think there has been any damage to yield prospects as of yet. For now, we are waiting on our in crop herbicide spraying. There are very few weeds growing as of yet. At some point the crop will be at a stage that we will have to spray – but for now we will wait, hopefully get a rain, and that will induce weed seeds to germinate and grow.

During this lull, we have been working on all three of the air drills. Going through each of them, doing most of the repairs. Besides that we have also been hauling grain to market.
